Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Cardiology team. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with cardiologists to provide comprehensive care for patients with acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions in both Inpatient and Outpatient settings. While prior advanced practice experience in cardiology is preferred, we provide a structured environment for growth and encourage qualified new graduates with strong clinical backgrounds to apply.
Key Responsibilities
● Conduct comprehensive cardiovascular assessments, including physical exams and medical history reviews.
● Diagnose and manage common cardiac conditions such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, and hypertension.
● Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests, including EKGs, stress tests, echocardiograms, and laboratory work.
● Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the attending physician.
● Provide patient education regarding disease management, medications, and lifestyle modifications.
● Perform or assist in clinical procedures as qualified (e.g., cardioversions, stress test supervision).
● Maintain accurate and timely electronic health records (EHR).
Required Qualifications
Education: Master’s or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
Licensure: Current, valid license to practice in Mississippi and board certification (AANP/ANCC for NPs or NCCPA for PAs).
Certifications: Current BLS and ACLS certification.
Specific Clinical Experience (NP Applicants): Minimum of 2 years of RN or NP experience in a Cardiology clinic, Cardiology inpatient unit, or Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is required.
Specific Clinical Experience (PA Applicants): Prior cardiology rotation or clinical experience in a high-acuity setting is highly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
● Prior experience as a Cardiology NP or PA.
● Familiarity with Cerner.
● Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Triage & Assessment:
Conducts initial patient intake, including vital signs, medication reconciliation, and symptom assessment prior to the physician exam.
Triages patient phone calls and portal messages, identifying urgent cardiac red flags and escalating care when necessary.
Cardiovascular Testing Support:
Assists in or performs non-invasive diagnostic tests common to the practice, such as EKGs, Holter monitor applications, and stress test preparation.
Prepares patients for in-office procedures and ensures all diagnostic results are available for the physician’s review.
Comprehensive Documentation:
Maintains meticulous records within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, ensuring all patient encounters, physician orders, and verbal instructions are captured in real-time.
Ensures all documentation meets compliance standards for billing and quality reporting (MIPS/MACRA).
Proactive Patient Education:
Develops and delivers customized education plans regarding heart-healthy diets, smoking cessation, and exercise protocols.
Instructs patients on the proper use of cardiac medications, including anticoagulants and anti-hypertensives, emphasizing adherence and side-effect monitoring.
Continuum of Care & Follow-Up:
Coordinates the “closing of the loop” by following up on lab results, imaging reports, and specialist referrals.
Conducts post-procedure follow-up calls to monitor recovery and ensure patients under stand their discharge instructions from the hospital.
Administrative Clinical Liaison:
Manages prescription refills and prior authorizations for cardiac medications and procedures.
Serves as a resource for Medical Assistants (MAs) to ensure clinical protocols are followed throughout the office.
